In my previous post, I was discussing various mental strategies for success with carnivore diet, today it’s time to put into an action a plan to succeed on a carnivore diet.
LET YOUR FAMILY KNOW ABOUT CARNIVORE DIET
Let your family know that you are going on carnivore diet. Ask them to cooperate with you and support you. Be aware, there will be eyebrows raised, inevitably somebody will call you crazy. Nobody said anything when you were chasing your pizza with a can of soda. But steak, butter, fish and eggs, oh no this is bad. Your closest family should participate, while they don’t need to eat meat fat and salt, perhaps they can eliminate all snacks, and unhealthy food. There is no downside to eliminating processed food from diet. It’s very helpful if your comfort foods aren’t easily accessible, so throw it out. If you have to get out of your house to get your fix, chances are you will just let it go.
Somebody will also tell you that meat costs a lot more money, but you can tell them there is at least 13 ways you will save money by not buying everything else to succeed on a carnivore diet.

GET RID OF SNACKS FROM YOUR PANTRY
Go through your pantry and your fridge and get rid of everything that you shouldn’t be eating. No ifs or buts, just do it. When cravings strike, and they will strike for sure, it will be hard to stay away from your favorite snacks. Out of sight out of mind, make it difficult for yourself to eat the wrong foods.
GET AN AIR FRYER
Get an air fryer, whether it’s something basic or more advanced, it will be a major help in food preparation. Air fryers make it easy, you can just salt your meat, and you won’t have to spend all the time in the kitchen marinating it. If you haven’t made a single steak in your life, still nothing to worry about, steaks will come out delicious.
GET VARIETY OF SPARKLING WATERS
Get some variety of sparkling waters, they are an excellent replacement for sodas. It is important though that they aren’t sweetened even if it’s stevia. One aspect of getting healthy, is get your brain unaccustomed to the constant sensation of sweetness.
ELECTROYLES
Electrolytes may be helpful if you are switching to ketosis. Because I was dealing with autoimmunity, I care to be in ketosis, as it has anti-inflammatory effects on the body.

TRANSITION IN STAGES
Start transitioning in stages. If you are coffee/tea addict, start with these first. Giving up of coffee was a pure torture for me, and it lasted weeks before I felt free from it. I wouldn’t be able to do anything else, especially if it had to do with changing of my dietary behaviors. In fact, I was eating more to distract myself from the desire to make coffee.
USE WIM HOF BREATHING METHOD
Use Wim Hof breathing method. I can’t tell you what it is, but I used it for my coffee addiction, and it just gave me more mental strength to power though the many crisis.

WRITE IT DOWN IN YOUR CALENDAR
Write a date in the calendar by which you will be adapted to the diet. It is a mental trick to keep you accountable to yourself. Diary is also a good idea, it will allow you to pick up on your eating patterns, and what triggers them.
SNACKING
If you are used to snacking, have something handy that is consistent with the carnivore diet such as dried sausage, bacon, beef jerky (make beef jerky yourself). For me the hardest time was to prepare non carnivore food for my son, specifically peel cut up his apple and not have a slice, geez.
INCREASE YOUR FAT INTAKE
Increase your fat intake, whether you care to be in ketosis or not, increased fat intake will help you with carbohydrate withdrawals. It will also be used for energy in place of glucose. Definitely get good quality of beef tallow, lard, butter or duck fat.
EAT HOME MADE SAUERKRAUT
If you have a major addiction to carbohydrates, before you go full carnivore, eat for a week or two homemade sauerkraut, this will change your gut microbiome making the die off of carbohydrate dependent microbes less painful, while at the same time populating your gut with more diverse and beneficial microbes.
BATTLE CRANKINESS WITH ESSENTIAL OILS
Battle crankiness with essential oils. I love citrus and eucalyptus, always elevates my mood.
CONCLUSION
Most people end up trying carnivore diet because everything else have already failed. If you have autoimmunity, you will have to further restrict the diet even further. The good news is, within weeks your body will respond, and you will feel that you are healing. At that point, you will get a new wave of motivation. Stay consistent and stick with these steps they will get you where you need to get to succeed on a carnivore diet.
