Why healthy unhealthy vegan choices?

I’m planning to stay carnivore for most of my life with some fruit in it, in season. That said, I understand carnivore diet isn’t appealing or needed for everybody. However, today’s omnivore diet is a far cry from what our grandparents used to eat, and frankly Veganism and this never-ending push for more plants in the diet are behind it. 

Here are some “HEALTHY UNHEALTHY’  vegan choices on Omnivore Diet:

PLANT “MILK” ISN’T MILK AT ALL 

The so-called plant milks aren’t milks at all, they may look like milk, if you shake them well, but they aren’t milk that mammals produce to turn their babies into healthy adults. Yet, I hear parents in the playground contemplating switching their toddlers from cow’s milk to almond or coconut milk, worse yet, soy milk.  Plant “milks” are bunch of nuts mixed with water to produce white looking liquid, that’s all. 

I am sure if it wasn’t for the “eat more plants” push, parents would look for Raw A2 milk, sheep, or goat milks, if cow’s milk was allergenic for their kids.

FATS VS OILS

Fats come from animals, oils from plants. They aren’t interchangeable, and they interact with our bodies very differently. However, if you pick a jar of peanut butter you will see on the nutrition label: fat content. It’s a full of omega 6 plant oil that your body will struggle to metabolize and make use of. On the other hand, tallow or butter are a true animal fat which will help your body to function optimally. More importantly, it is what our ancestors ate and valued as means for health and longevity. 

COOKING WITH OILS

Cooking with oils isn’t healthier than cooking with lard or tallow.  In fact, pretty much every animal fat that has a higher burning point than any of the vegetable oils. Even frying in the healthier options, such as olive oil or coconut oil isn’t better from the oxidation and rancidity point of view. The truth is all of plant oils including coconut and olive oils are inferior to lard and tallow when it comes to frying.

REPLACING DAIRY WITH PLANT BASED OPTIONS

Replacing dairy with plant-based options is yet another healthy but unhealthy habit. Somehow our ancestors knew that you needed dairy to neutralize oxalates in plants. That’s why we have Greek filo pie with spinach and cheese, black tea with milk, and oats with cow’s milk. Calcium in dairy binds to oxalates removing them from our body.  You will not achieve the same effect by adding soy or almond milk to your tea or coffee.

RAW VEGETABLES 

Don’t eat raw vegetables if you can help it, especially the leafy ones.  Our ancestors hardly ever planted leafy greens.  They mainly grew grains and root vegetables, which they cooked or fermented before eating. I am not sure where the love affair with kale started, but I assure you, if I showed it to my grandparents, they would feed it to horses. If I showed them garden variety of lettuces, they would give it to rabbits. 

Kale isn’t super food, whatever nutrients it may have, are wrapped in indigestible fiber, and leafy greens typically are full of oxalates. If you really want to get a superfood, eat some animal liver. 

EATING LESS RED MEAT IN FAVOR OF CHICKEN AND FISH

Read meat has a lot of nutrients that white meats don’t. If you must choose between red and white meat for nutritional content, always go with red meat. The studies on carcinogenic properties of meat have been carried it out very poorly, if you like to learn more check my video dedicated to this topic here:

I often hear people saying that they would love to go vegan, but just can’t bring themselves to it. So to get closer to “the healthiest diet” they go with chicken or fish. Get some staek and be merry. 

FINAL THOUGHTS

If you want to have a better diet, avoiding these common “healthy unhealthy” food choices. Even if you aren’t carnivore, it will make tons of differences in your health. More plants in your diet doesn’t equal better health.  Our ancestors ate mostly root vegetables, grains and beans, and only if animal food weren’t available.
