Most of you know that I was once vegetarian and then vegan but my fertility improved on carnivore diet. Though I stopped it in time for it to become an irreversible damage, it took a while to get my health back. As soon as I started eating meat again, I started feeling better, and a year later I decided to have a baby. What I didn’t know that there were already some undesirable changes to my fertility.
I WASN’T GETTING PREGNANT FAST ENOUGH
I thought it was going to be right away that I would get pregnant. It didn’t even occur to me that it may not be as easy as I imagined.
I started supplementing and taking herbal remedies to improve the odds of getting pregnant. With that I was also doing acupuncture, and ayurvedic remedies. Eventually I got all my hormones tested to see how fertile I was. At 36 I was somewhat below the average when it came to ovarian reserve. I was at 1.5 and the average for my age group is 2. My Follicle stimulating Hormone (FSH) was not great, but not a disaster either. I was slightly above what’s normal for FSH. Finally, a year later I got pregnant. Yay! I was so happy. My pregnancy was easy and I sticked with low carb diet (for the most part – cravings).
SECOND PREGNANCY WAS ONE AND DONE
I got pregnant for the second time without trying. The second month after we decided to try for the second baby it happened. As a matter of fact, because of my previous pregnancy, we decided to get checked right away to see whether there are problems that need to be treated. At 41 I didn’t want to waste any time, and if fertility treatment was needed that 6 months of trying could make all the difference. It took almost two months to get all the results, the clinic I went to was very thorough. They checked for every single hormone, antibody or a condition that may affect fertility. When we met with the doctor for the follow up visit, to my surprise, my fertility at 41 years old was better than when I was 36! My AMH was at 1.36, it hardly dropped with my age. The average AMH for my age group is 0.92. The doctor was very optimistic about chances of getting pregnant, and said IVF won’t be a problem, and I could even do IUI. Except, that I was already pregnant.

CARNIVORE DIET
My sole reason going carnivore was to reverse Rheumatoid Arthritis. But it seems that I got a lot more than I bargained for. Besides RA, I got rid of chronic fatigue, allergies, constipation, and…IMPROVED MY FERTILTY.
Going carnivore was the only major change in my lifestyle and diet between the first and second pregnancy. I am convinced that the unique nutritional profile, and nutrient density in meat are responsible for optimal fertility. For over a year now I have been eating meat and more meat, and lots of saturated fats.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Meat is essential for human nutrition, evolutionarily the most appropriate for human nutrition, and as it turns out a dietary intervention for a variety of chronic health issues, including fertility. In my opinion, your sex hormones and fertility are the best measures of your overall health.
Eat steak and see improved fertility on the carnivore diet.
